Dont get me wrong, I really like this game, I just thought the graphics were so-so. Was expecting more based on the reviews.

I played this over and over on my iPhone and my iPAD. Now its on my MacBook Pro. Great app!
There are no customizations available, apparently, for the Mac. There is talk of tile choices, though there are no such options, apparently, for Mac. (And I find the default tiles somewhat difficult to read.) Likewise theres talk about background choices, but not, apparently for Mac. I cant even find a way to select the layout, which, I must say, is rather tiresome. On the plus side, game noises are not annoying in the least.
Remains the favorite mahmong. Beautifu & clear.
This is one of the best mahjong games that I have played. It will definitely become my favorite, Im sure. I really like the timing and score keeping that several other mahjongs for Mac do not have. It makes the game much more exciting when you are competing against your times and scores. Very nice layout, good choices for backgrounds, and clear tile set. Good job, Shanghai Mahjong creators!
honestly, the only fault I could find with this game is lack of full screen support for lion. I like to keep all my open apps full screen, and its really sad, that such a great game is lacking this very basic ability. upgrade with full screen support, and I will gladly give it 5 stars. otherwise its an excellent game, and i dont believe there is a better mahjong solitare game out there, for any platform.
This game is awesome. The only thing it need is full screen support, then it would be 5 stars
I am very pleased that I chose this game. I have had several different Mahjong games both for PC and MAC. This is one of my favorites for layouts, tile sets, backgrounds, sound--everything. It comes with a default tile set and Background, but you can download more and they are all very interesting. It does not have a full screen option, but has great layouts and the backgrounds and tile sets are easy to see and visually interesting and challenging. This is a great choice.
It is good for a sudoku like puzzle game. But please, nobody in Shanghai plays Mahjong like this! I cant believe I paid for this thing.
WIth all the reviews about how nice this app looked, I foolishly assumed I could maximize the game window. No can do. Im tired of spending hard earned money, only to find apps that will not maximize to the screen size. There is nothing special about the graphics or appearance of this plain-jane, garden variety Mahjong application. Very disappointed.
I owned an app by this name way back in the Mac OS9 days. Its so much alike that it may be the same developer. It was very good then and this app is far better. I do wonder, tho, if the deck is stacked, so to speak. It seems like I am winning far more games than I expect I should. Or maybe Ive gotten smarter over time, but I doubt it. Im glad its not a full screen app. I use a 30" monitor and it would be hard to play at that size. I wouldnt mind it being a bit larger than it is, but am happy with it as is. Nice job.
I have several Mahjong applications, and this one is by far my favorite. The tile sets are very artful, and the only feature I would wish for is a larger selection of designs.
If only this game could be Full Screen. What I like best about this Mahjong over any game to compare is there is an option to play with tiles other than the typical chinese calligraphy. What would really rock is if paired tiles rewarded the player with a short animation or small movie. There was a mahjong game I purchased long ago in th 80s that offered the best game I ever played. That game offered the best reward; if won, a short black and white old movie clip played for the winner. It was like winning the Lottery.
Way more layouts than I will ever want. Beautiful tilesets (some of which are quite challenging). Ho-hum collection of backgrounds (if it’s ever updated it should allow you to choose a picture/graphic from your hard disk). No-pressure timer (just elapsed time, no penalties). Interesting scoring system (that will be largely irrelevant to the user who just likes to veg out over the game and try to clear whole layouts, though it does allow for some detailed statistics). Statistics of past play (fun, but largely irrelevant). Special cases the “season” and “flower” tiles like the “original” Mah-Jongg/Shanghai from back in ’81/86 (for some, but not all, tilesets) (Yeah!! not all newer versions do this, to their eternal detriment). And finally: A very interesting “Windstorm” mode that really does add “a whole new dimension to Mahjong.” . Even if you’ve played Mahjong since the ‘80s and are pretty blasé about it (and think Brodie got it right the first time but you’ve played that original turtle layout a million times but you don’t like any of the others...), this is worth checking out. Try playing with a tileset like Paparazzi or Alien Stone with Windstorm mode on. Whoa. Not so easy to run through the tiles this time. . No, it won’t full-screen, but it’s plenty big enough. And realistically full-screening would require the tileset files to either be much larger or look terrible, and MobileAge has obviously tried to make this game as light-weight as possible since they appear to use the same graphics for both the computer and mobile versions (and, even on the computer version, require you to laboriously download each tileset individually). . And no, this is not the traditional Chinese/southeast-asian game of Mahjong. This is a solitare game using Mahjong tiles that is closely based on one first programmed by Brodie Lockard in 1981 and ported to the Macintosh in 1986.
This game wouldnt open after 3 years with the message that it was damaged and need to be reinstalled. The only option offered was to repurchase it. I contacted MobleAge Shanghai Mahjong Support, and never got a reply. Tried a restore and was given the same prompt. Was a good game while it lasted but it should have been a one-time purchase. The company should have shown some concern for their customer. Bad business!
