No, Im not on their payroll. This game is the best 3 bucks youll ever spend in terms of enjoyment per hour. Elegant and complex, beautifully designed game pieces and imaginative sounds. An immense number of game layouts (command L to choose alternatives). Keeps time and score, offers hints, reshuffles when you reach a dead end and they offer free downloads of different game piece designs. I was playing the free Yahoo mahjong, which is fun, but extremely crude compared to this developers incarnation. I rarely review anything on the web, but this particular app is a true masterwork with very few rough edges.

I love the new update. Im addicted to it now! Hope I see more new updates in the near future!

I really love the way this game looks on my Mac. And having the option to download the various tilesets and backgrounds really makes this edition of the game stand out from the others I have tried. So far the best app Ive purchased through the app store. 1.1 Update - like the way we get to have 3 fortunes at the end of a game, and yes definately the new shading helps in the view of the lighter colored tilesets.

This is a very good touch up to a super app - improving on my fav mahjong certainly puts a smile on my face. The graphics are really super sharp and always glad to see new tileset options.

Original review: I enjoy playing games that force me to think a bit: bridge, Chinese checkers, scrabble, and now Shanghai Mahjong. As other reviewers have mentioned, the game itself is beautifully designed, and easy for people like me who are definitely in the "non-technical" category. Im starting off with the Mini Traditional layout and Letter Block tiles and look forward to more challenging arrangements in the future.

I love this app!! I have this app installed on my iPod Touch and now I have this for my Mac!! Every bit as good as the iPod version. However, the ability to choose your own backgrounds in addtion to the ones provided by downloads is missing. I hope it can be added in the next version and itll be just perfect!!! Now I can play Shanhai Mahjong at home as well as playing it on the go!! Great job!!!

William Kessel needs to contact tech support as there are absolutely no memory management issues with Shanghai. The app is professionally developed and crafted with as much care on the inside as it was on the outside. It continues to run flawlessly for many thousands of users so his problem sounds more like a corrupt install or some other issue with his mac. Its possible that he doesnt understand the game purposely blurs the game area when its switched away to discourage "cheating" on game times. Switching back to the game is instantaneous.

this is to nullify the first review I did. I really like this app.this is such a cool app. I have played it almost non stop since I got it. It is a great game to play when you cant sleep or anytime for that matter. Highly recommended by me!

I agree with the other reviewers, you can definately save your money by not having to purchase other Mahjong games, this is the one to get. Superb graphics, great playing options and intuitive design. Having the three fortune cookie options at the end of a successful game is a nice touch as well. I do think they should start you out with an easier layout, but its easy to choose one from the menu, and then the game remembers which ones you have played making it super easy to switch around.

Got this one based on the positive reviews and glad I did. I like a Mac game that I can figure out how to operate right away and this one meets that criteria. All the game options are a snap to find, and the list of layout and tile artwork options are really impressive. I like too that I can see which layouts I have already completed and my best time is listed on each as well. Perhaps an option to go to the next layout automatically once you complete one would be something I would suggest. But all in all a really superb implementation of this classic game.

Love the Star Trek tiles -- its a shame Q isnt in there anywhere, though. Can you provide more fortunes (particularly the humorous ones!) for variety, for those of us who play this game a lot?

Great selection of layouts, and the tileset art is really well done. Not sure if I am missing a full screen option in my new Lion OS, but if I had to choose full screen only or window only I would take the game the way it is now. And already had a couple people looking over my shoulder on the train as I ran the game on my MacBook Air asking what was it I as playing. :-)

This is the game that Ive been looking for. I like the fact that the tiles are not grayed out. It makes it more challenging to find the pairs. I just installed the app and already it has become very addictive.

This is the best Mahjong app I have ever used. The interface is beautiful with a wide selection of backgrounds and tile sets. The different tile sets add an additional layer of difficulty which is a welcome feature for experienced Mahjong players.

This is the best Mahjong app and the only one you need. In fact, its one of the best apps Ive seen of any kind. There are so many different options that I never get tired of it. I love it! I got a few Mahjong apps before this and I never play them now. If you love Mahjong you definitely need this app.

I was a long time user of Activisions Shanghai (I & II) for Mac. This version is a good example of what I was looking for in a Mahjong solitaire game — clean graphics, good tile sets etc. There are a few improvements I would like to see: 1.) Full screen mode 2.) Stereo sound effects — remove a tile on the left and hear it on the left etc. 3.) Master Slayer game play options like the old Shanghai! 4.) Tournament Challenge on tile sets — also like the old Shanghai. How quickly can you get through some (or all) tile sets. 5.) iCloud support for syncing to the iOS version of the game — pick up games on the go etc.

The graphics are just right. The price is reasonable. Id like the option to hide the timer from view and the ability to open the game in full screen, but this is far and away the Mahjong game for me.

I love the availability of the different types of tiles and backgrounds. I am working my way through the different layouts and am probably only 20% through. I am already enjoying it immensely and expect to continue to do so. Works great, looks good!

Terrible---dont enjoy playing the same game over and over. Will get this app off the computer ASAP. What a waste of money. I have this same game on my iPod and have many different game boards to play. That one is fun and hours of entertainment!!!!
